Values shape individual and collective consciousness, influence linguistic representation, and contribute to the formation of cultural identity. Specific value concepts are rare across languages and cultures. This study explores national-cultural values in structurally different languages through the concept of “family” (otbasy/sem’ya/ family), a central element in shaping identity and transmitting social norms. Grounded in the anthropocentric paradigm, the research builds on family discourse studies, highlighting the importance of value concepts in language and culture. Methodologically, it combines a comparative analysis of explanatory dictionaries in Kazakh, Russian, and English with an associative experiment conducted among Kazakhstani youth. The results reveal both universal and culturally specific components of the concept, with variations in associations reflecting differing sociocultural realities. The findings demonstrate how cultural and linguistic factors shape the understanding of family, with implications in educational settings, intercultural communication studies, language teaching, and social sciences. Overall, analyzing such concepts fosters deeper intercultural awareness, mutual respect, and communication.
