This study aimed to investigate the potential use of activated carbon derived from plum pit shells in relation to copper ions (II). The studied activated carbon possesses the highest specific surface area and, therefore, superior sorption properties. The effectiveness of copper removal was examined under various initial copper concentrations (20–50 mg/L), pH levels (2–6), and fly ash dosage (20–80 g/L). Maximum sorption was observed at a pH range of 7.5-8. The sorption isotherms of copper ions (II) belong to the Langmuir type. The increase in sorption capacity in the pH range from 3 to 6, as well as the decrease in sorbent sorption capacity due to acid treatment, suggests a significant contribution of chemisorption involving carboxyl groups to the mechanism of Cu(II) sorption. The study on the influence of contact time on the rate of reaching equilibrium showed that sorption proceeds quite rapidly and is virtually complete within 3 minutes. The possibility of using the investigated sample for the purification of wastewater from galvanic production from Cu(II) ions has been demonstrated.
