Reheating furnaces are widespread in the world of industry. In most cases they use fossil fuels for their operation. The thermal efficiency of the furnaces is low; therefore, this facility is a huge source of harmful emissions, mainly, carbon dioxide. The use of modern refractory materials allows a decrease of heat losses. However, the suppliers of the refractories use a standardized calculation approach for the evaluation of the resulted parameters. This leads to a decrease in heat losses; however, simple additional manipulation of the design of refractory lining allows getting much more benefits with little effort. This paper provides the results of a standard refractory lining design analysis and improvement that leads to an additional 13.4% decrease in heat losses.
