The article presents the results of a study of the stress-strain state, microstructure, and mechanical properties during intensive shear rolling in rolls with special diamond passes for the implementation of alternating shear strain. It was found that significant compressive stresses act on the billet in the direction of the small diagonal of the diamond passes, and insignificant tensile stresses act in the direction of the large diagonal, which are annihilated during subsequent rolling passes. An analysis of the microstructure after rolling showed that the average grain size compared with the initial samples was reduced by more than three times, up to 9 μm, and that high-angle grain boundaries predominate over the steel cross-section. The increase in yield strength and tensile strength compared to the initial sample before rolling is 134.47% and 69.41%, respectively.
