Improving the quality of life in monotowns should take place through an increase in scientific potential, through the development of an innovative economy. The paper analyzes the classifications of monotowns of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which determine changes in the extractive and manufacturing industries in the structure of the economy of Kazakhstan. The analysis allows us to conclude that in the course of the study, it becomes obvious that it is necessary to strengthen the financing of the scientific and technical activities of the organization, as well as to establish a dialogue interaction between science, education and production. The results of the analysis indicate an obvious dependence of the future development of the possibility and improvement of the quality of life in single-industry towns through the prism of the scientific potential of universities in single-industry cities on the example of the cities of Arkalyk, Rudny and Zhezkazgan.
