Today, the relationship between epistemology and history is an important problem in various aspects, both as an enrichment of research practice and as a pedagogical resource. The individual scientific experience of historians is a unique historiographical information. The methodological synthesis of the researcher makes it possible to cognize the subjective reality contained in the sources and reveals the nature of historical consciousness. In the context of the history of historical knowledge, V.V. Bartholds scientific legacy is presented as an example of a scientific strategy based on a strict logical analysis and verification of data from a complex of historical sources. The purpose of the article is to analyze the research strategy of V.V. Barthold, one of the founders of the school of Oriental Studies on the history of Central Asia. The research materials are the works of V.V. Barthold. The result is to update the methodology of the subject of scientific knowledge V.V.
