Male infertility in Central Asia: the first report from the region

Introduction. Male infertility is a significant clinical and social problem. Despite Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are the most populated countries in the Central Asia, there are almost no data about current status of the problem of male infertility in the region. Objective. To highlight the situation with the fraction of isolated male factor infertility in the countries of Central Asia on the exam-ple of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Material and methods. A facility-based retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted. 957 patients aged from 18 to 64, living in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and having problems with fertility in the period from 2019 to 2022 were analyzed. Samples were col-lected and analyzed according to the World Health Organization laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen on the basis of the City center of human reproduction (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and the commercial clinic of human reproduction “Miracle IVF” (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). Macroscopic and microscopic assessment, cytological analysis, and mixed antiglobulin reaction were performed. The obtained data were interpreted via R. Results. Age correlations of sperm parameters of 957 patients with infertile marriages were presented. It is shown that in the Central Asia the fraction of isolated male factor infertility is 52.9% (47.1% of infertile men have normozoospermia). Conclusions. Our study provides information about the most common disorders and their frequency among patients suffering from male infertility. This study is the first report that displays the current status of male infertility in the region.
