This study involves the design and implementation of a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) based active soft switching (SS) cascaded boost converter. The analysis, design, simulation, and implementation of the active SS cascaded boost converter used in the system were carried out. It was observed that the main and auxiliary switches operated under SS conditions even under rapidly changing solar irradiation, which reduced switching losses and increased the efficiency of the converter. The proposed converter was compared with a hard switching (HS) converter in terms of efficiency, and it was proven that the proposed converter provided higher efficiency. In addition, the proposed converter achieved the desired high output voltage at a low duty cycle. In the system, maximum power was extracted from photovoltaic (PV) panels and transferred to the load. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm was used as the MPPT method. Using a PV simulator, high MPPT efficiency was also achieved. The total system power was 330 W, and the converter was operated at a switching frequency of 40 kHz to obtain the experimental results.
