The article examines the professional life of Madiyar Yeleuov, the years of his pedagogical activity, as well as his activities as a scientist. Since entering the Kazakh State University in 1970, he has been studying sites and monuments of the medieval archae-ology. While teaching at the university, he led the exploration group of the archaeological expedition of the university. As a result of research, he discovered and introduced into scientific circulation information about many previously unknown burial grounds and settlements of the Bronze Age, early Iron Age and Middle Ages located in the Shu-Talas region, on the slopes of Karatau, Middle and Lower Reaches of the Syr Darya River. Being a professor in the Kazakh National University, Eurasian National University, Kazakh-Turkic University, the associate professor, head of department, the director of research center, he directed ex-peditions and carried out complex studying of the medieval capitals such as Aktobe, Merke, Taraz, Tortkultobe, Kultobe, Karachik, Sauran, Kyshkala and other sites, carried out a huge work to determine the main direction and branches of the Great Silk Road. M. Yeleuov is a qualified specialist who has made a significant contribution into the development of medieval archaeology in Kazakhstan, as well as an excellent mentor in teaching students (followers). His scientific works are mainly devoted to the problems of the medieval urban culture of Kazakhstan and the Great Silk Road, problems of the protection of historical and cultural sites and monuments.
