The α-decay spectroscopy of 247Md was investigated via the fusion-evaporation reaction 209Bi(40Ar, 2n) 247Md by means of α-, γ -, and electron-coincidence measurements. While measuring the previously known α-decay properties, a new isomeric state in 243Es, the daughter nucleus of 247Md, with a half-life of 5.0(5) μs was observed. Based on the suggested decay scheme of 247Md, the new isomer in 243Es was assigned as the 7/2+[633] Nilsson level, which is the first observation of an isomer in Z = 99 Es isotopes. The single-particle structure around the Z = 100 deformed shell gap was discussed.
