Materials of the excavations at the Akkezen settlement in Central Kazakhstan are published. It is located 115 km southeast of the city of Karaganda. The area of the site according to the measurements of the extreme ancient buildings is 22 hectares. A total of 80 buildings in the form of stone structures and depressions of housing pits with stone walls have been discovered. The settlement belongs to the Begazy–Dandybaevo (Sargarino–Alexeevo) culture and is dated the 14th–13th centuries BC. In 2020, part of the metalworking workshop was excavated. A heat engineering structure, metal products, casting mold, casting scrap, and stone metalworking tools were discovered. A special feature of the Akkezen workshop was conversion production based on the use of scrap metal. The activity of metallurgists was characterized by high productivity and manufacturability; many items were cast in complex and cassette molds. The means of collecting scrap metal remain unknown. Was a salvage point organized on Akkezen, or were scrap collectors involved in scavenging? But it can be said that elements of a recycling economy were in place, based on recovery, reuse and regeneration of materials. Considering the scale of production, these workshops were aimed at commercial production of copper and bronze items. The workshops of metallurgists occupied a special area within the settlement, which was a special handicraft quarter.
