The article presents the results of archaeological excavations and research conducted in the lower reaches of the Syrdarya River in the 19th–20th centuries. The primary purpose of this undertaken work is a comprehensive study, systematization and analysis of scientific works related to archaeological research conducted in this area during the specified period. The authors performed a comparative analysis of the results of the research of scientists of the 19th and 20th centuries. As a result, it was determined that in the 19th century, due to the implementation of the colonial policy of the tsarist regime, special expeditions were arranged, overseen by military figures such as P. Rychkov, M. Meyer, A.I. Levshin, A.I. Maksheev, V.V. Grigoriev, P.I. Lerkh, and V.V. Vereshchagin. The results of the expeditions reflect data on geographical features, the location of archaeological sites and their characteristics. Later, this information was supplemented by members of the Turkestan circle of archaeology enthusiasts. Among the researchers of the lower reaches of the Syrdarya River, the activity of the Khorezm archaeological and ethnographic expedition made a special contribution. The members of the expedition, which included archaeologists, topographers, soil scientists, geomorphologists, etc., in the period from 1946 to 1991, identified and conducted research on more than two hundred archaeological sites. These sites encompassed cities, settlements, fortresses, separate premises, towns, burial sites. Thus, comprehensive insights into the culture, lifestyle, and economy of the peoples inhabiting the designated area were examined, along with assessments regarding the dating of these monuments.
