Pore classification and methods of determining the porosity in carbon materials—specifically, the reducing agent (rexil, which is a special coke) used in electrofurnace production of silicon—are considered. The porosity of special coke is determined by mercury porosimetry, low-temperature adsorption, an accelerated method, a gravimetric method, and electron microscopy. An optimal method is selected for determining the porosity of special coke with fine pores.
