This study provides combined isothermal and non-isothermal pyrolysis properties of Kazakhstan coals necessary for development and optimization of thermal processes. Devolatilization properties are investigated using thermogravimetric analysis, thermobalance reactor, and wire-mesh reactor experiments at temperatures from 400°C to 1,000°C. Maikuben coal has the highest reactivity at 900°C and Shubarkol coal has lowest ash initial deformation. Turgay coal demonstrates high gas yield at 800°C and above. At temperatures above 800°C tar cracking intensifies, but tar release from Shubarkol coal increased reaching 8.06% of initial mass at 1,000°C. Results demonstrate that Shubarkol and Turgay coals are favorable gasification feedstock.
