Research into speciation of 238U in the radioactively contaminated water streams

The feature of environmental radioactive contamination at the STS is significant levels of surface water contamination, including 238U. As a result of the work, data was obtained on 238U speciation in the water bodies of the “Degelen” site. A dissolved substance was found to be the predominant speciation of 238U depending on the particle size. Speciation by the oxidation rate in the water of adit 503 and 504, over 90% of 238U is + 6. In the waters of adit 609 and 104, 52% and 64% of 238U is in the oxidation state of + 6, 48% and 36% to + 4.
