The report summarizes the results of a survey of Russian economists, which allowed to analyze a socio-demographic profile of the discipline. In Russian economic science, women numerically outnumber men (61% women and 39% men), and the median age of a Russian economist is 50 years. About 30% of the respondents live in Moscow, where the concentration of doctoral (upper-level) degree holders is higher than the national average. Those who do not obtain their candidate (lower-level) degrees by their early 30s rarely remain in science. We do not observe a similar age ceiling for doctoral degrees. Analysis of respondents who expressed interest in different research fields shows that they also differ in their demographic profile. There are predominantly male (econometrics) and female (accounting, marketing, management) specialties. Specialties also differ by the average age of their representatives (political economy — 55 years, economics and law — 44 years), by the share of residents of the capital (regional economics has the lowest share of Moscow residents, while world economy has the highest), and by the proportion of doctoral degree holders. Economists predominantly come from highly educated families, and disproportionately from academic families.
