The article is dedicated to the study, analysis, and interpretation of a zoomorphic image, with a focus on its symbolic meaning. A bronze pendant depicting a leopard with a wolf’s head was discovered at the ancient settlement of Taraz. The research aims to identify the cultural and historical contexts associated with animal imagery, as well as to understand their role in shaping the artistic language and ethnocultural identity of the medieval population. The study of leopard and wolf imagery helps determine their place in the mythology and culture of the medieval steppe society. The animal, crafted in the traditions of the animal style, is depicted in a static pose, with a long neck and a head lowered downward. An art historical analysis of this artefact within the framework of the article allows for conclusions about the reminiscences of the animal style and their significance for reconstructing the ethnocultural history of medieval society.
