The results of studies of the technology for obtaining thin-walled spherical shells with a relative thickness H = (S/D) × 100 ≤ 0.5 from a new alloy 1580 of the Al-Mg system economically alloyed with scandium are presented. In the first stage of research, rolling-sheet semifinished products up to 2 mm thick were developed from this alloy. The structure and properties of experimental and industrial samples of rolled products make it possible to obtain the high level of mechanical properties necessary for further cold deformation. For the manufacture of thin-walled spherical shells, a new drawing method has been developed using a preliminary operation for forming ring edges. Using the drawing operation due to the deformation of the resulting ribs and the final calibration, it is possible to obtain the same thickness for the entire region and reduce the number of transitions and heat treatment operations. To implement this technology, dies and a sequence of operations for manufacturing spherical shells have been developed.
