Introduction. There are works proving the serious negative impact of stress on the development and course of vascular pathology of the fundus. For age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the etiopathogenetic role of adverse effects from society and other people has not been sufficiently studied, publications on this issue are few, fragmentary and scattered. Purpose. To study the relationship of psychoemotional stress with the development of age-related macular degeneration. Materials and methods. The results of the examination of 136 patients (221 eyes) with AMD were analyzed. All patients underwent a standard ophthalmological examination and a questionnaire using the PSM-25 Psychological Stress Scale method. The patients were divided into 3 groups: group 1 (no stress or mild stress) – 40 patients, group 2 (moderate stress level) – 56 patients and group 3 (high stress level) – 40 patients. To determine the level of nitric oxide in the plasma of patients, the method of Golikov P.P. and co-authors with the Griss reagent was used. Results. As a result of the conducted studies, it was possible to trace the results of the interaction of psychoemotional stress and AMD, while a direct positive correlation (r=0.86, p<0.095) was revealed between the level of stress and the degree of exacerbation of the disease. A significant (p<0.05) increase in NO levels was found in AMD patients experiencing moderate and high levels of psychoemotional stress. Conclusions. The relationship between psychoemotional stress and AMD has been established.
