Introduction. In a number of ophthalmic surgeries grafts are used to correct myopia, keratoconus, and keratoprosthetics. However, one of the main drawbacks of existing materials for the manufacture of transplants is that their chemical composition and physical properties are signifi cantly different from the corneal tissue, which in turn can aff ect the optical and trophic functions of the cornea of the eye and limit the possibility of their use. Purpose: To study the possibility of using transplants from the nail plate for implantation into the layers of the cornea of the eye. Materials and methods. Operations were performed on 18 adult rabbits (36 eyes). Used auto, allo and xenografts of the nail plate (the claw). Used options interlamellar tunnel keratoplasty. Morphological studies were carried out in terms of 7, 14 days, and 1, 2, 3 and 6 months. Results and discussion. The postoperative period was uneventful. There was no cellular response to the presence of transplants in the corneal stroma. In terms of 3–6 months after implantation was observed, the picture of germination of bundles of collagen fi bers, even when used as a transfer material of a xenograft. Conclusion. On the basis of the conducted morphological researches it is possible to conclude that the nail plate (auto, allo and xeno) is a promising material for interchange interlamellar keratoplasty in association with good biocompatibility. Changes in the structural formations of the cornea in response to the introduction of the nail plate to the minimum, which indicates the absence of metabolic disorders of the cornea, both in the early and late observation periods.
