This article discusses the nature and role of antroponymes in the Kazakh heroic epic “Koblandy Batyr”. Applying semantic and functional-discursive analysis, the authors illustrate that proper names in the epic not only have a nominative role but form important markers of ethnic, social, and mythological self. The analysis identifies seven main semantic groups of anthroponyms, each of which reflects a specific aspect of archaic beliefs associated with heroism, family continuity, and the concept of sacred space. Etymological analysis highlights the deep connection between these names and the ancient Turkic lexical fund and rich mythopoetic tradition. The prerequisites have been established for concluding that anthroponyms in “Koblandy Batyr” function as cultural codes that characterize stability and contribute to the reproducibility of heroic narratives in the oral tradition of Turkic peoples. This study makes a significant contribution to turkology, onomastics, and folklore studies, offering a multifaceted analysis of anthroponyms as carriers of cultural and historical information.
