The study aims to examine the lexical objectification of the concept “displaced persons” occurring in the Russian language over the last hundred years. The lexical objectification of a concept is understood as its verbalization, affirmation of its meaning in use and fixation in dictionaries. The concept of “displaced persons, persons changing their place of residence” is multifaceted and is represented in the Russian language by a broad range of synonyms. The initial chronological point in the analysis is the Ushakovs dictionary. The choice is because this is the first normative explanatory dictionary of the Russian language of modern times. The group of names under study in it is presented rather widely and described fully. The examples of usage given in the dictionary reflect the communicative norms of the first half of the 20th century. To compare nominations of different periods and in dictionaries of various types, the factual material of the study includes, in addition to the Ushakov dictionary, dictionary articles from the “Russian Semantic Dictionary” edited by N. Yu. Shvedova, the online dictionary of synonyms, other online dictionaries, and data from the National Corpus of the Russian Language which allow establishing the origin and frequency of use of lexemes. The author compared interpretations of the units and revealed differentiating features in the nomination of a single semantic group and contextual differences affecting the perception and lexical objectification of the concept of “displaced persons, persons changing their residence”. Lexical objectification is also shown in the example of the neologism “relocant”. As a result of examining the units of the synonymic series, the author found the differences in interpretation and contextual adjustment of meanings noted in the Dictionary edited by D. N. Ushakov. The latest dictionaries can be enriched by expanding the semantic structure of words denoting displaced persons, persons changing their residence.
