Objective. To study antenatal and intrapartum risk factors in mothers of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Patients and methods. A retrospective case-control study was conducted. Medical records of 111 mothers of preterm infants with BPD (study group) and 109 mothers of preterm infants without BPD (comparison group) for the period 2013–2017 were analyzed. Multiple logistic regression was used to identify antenatal and intrapartum risk factors associated with the development of BPD in preterm infants. Results. Multiple logistic regression showed a positive association of maternal arterial hypertension (Exp(B) = 0.424, 95% CI 0.183–0.970, p = 0.042), maternal edema (Exp(B) = 6.088, 95% CI 1.557–23.802, p = 0.009), polyhydramnios (Exp(B) = 9.925, 95% CI 1.176–83.742, p = 0.035), administration of antenatal steroids for preventing respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) (Exp(B) = 3.161, 95% CI 1.678–5.952, p < 0.001) with BPD in preterm infants. Conclusion. Arterial hypertension, edema during pregnancy, polyhydramnios, and administration of antenatal steroids for RDS significantly increase the risk of BPD in preterm infants.
