This article uses literary psychoanalysis on the problem of characters narcissism/megalomania, which is partly overcome by displacement, narcissisticly splitting them into a system of self-objects. The narcissistic text is a therapeutic construct in which the complex of God is repressed, reflecting the pains of personality development and the painful problems of socialization. It is an attempt to restore personal and social balance and norms. The protagonists in Ilya Odegovs prose (the novel The Sound with which the Sun Rises and the story Purusha) are, in fact, making up for various kinds of “deficits” (animosity in the family, undervaluation by society, etc.).
