Abstract: Aerothermoacoustic treatment is assessed as a means of changing the properties of metals and alloys. In this approach, an acoustic field is applied during the cooling of a workpiece that has been heated to a specific temperature. The strength and hardness of high-quality carbon steel may be increased by repeated aerothermoacoustic treatment. By this means, the impact strength of the steel may be increased without decrease in its initial strength.
