Objective of the study was to identify generations of textbooks on the theory and methodology of sports. Methods and structure of the study. Consideration of the evolution of textbooks on the theory and methodology of sports made it possible to distinguish five generations. Each of the generations is a qualitative step in achieving the goal of vocational education-to develop the skill of managing the training process in changing conditions. Currently, the vast majority of textbooks on the theory and methodology of sports are approximately at the level of the second generation. Poor development of practical applications for sports forecasting makes it difficult to move to third generation textbooks.
