The article proposes a version regarding the relationship between two famous works of J. S. Bach: Toccata and the fugue d-moll “Dorian” for organ BWV 538 (1717) and “Matthäus-Passion” BWV 244 (1726–1736). In this study I use the method of comparative musical-theoretical analysis which allows us to talk about a musical and a plot connection between these two works. This method is based on the analytical apparatus of domestic theoretical musicology. The results of the study lead to the following conclusions: Toccata and the fugue d-moll “Dorian” relies on the chorale “Christ, unser Herr, zum Jordan kam” as a musical source which is also present in the “Matthäus-Passion”. The compositional structure of the toccata “Dorian” (the first part of the cycle “Dorian”) is almost similar to the general compositional structure of the “Matthäus-Passion”. Both works are based on the principle of repeats of the most important parts in the location of musical material and a special system of acoustic techniques. The main conclusion of the study is as follows: in the toccata “Dorian” there is a hidden layer of artistic content which is due to the literary text of the choral “Christ, unser Herr, zum Jordan kam” and the text of a separate part from the libretto of the “Matthäus-Passion”
