The article is a continuation of the earlier publication organ polyphonic cycle F-dur of J. S. Bach BWV 540 the subject of the analysis was Toccata. In the following text attention is focused on the second part of this cycle – the Fugue F-dur. There are no special studies devoted to the study and description of this work. The question of the dating of its parts also remains open. This fact served as the basis for consideration separately of each of its parts. The purpose of this article is a detailed analysis of the structure and chorale origins of the Fugue F-dur which determined its artistic content. The author proposes the following hypotheses and conclusions for consideration: the Fugue F-dur is written on two different musical themes. Each one is displayed separately. The first theme has its own counter-exposure, the second theme has its own developing part. In the fugue reprise both themes sound together. These themes are based on different choral origins: the source for the first theme is most likely the chorale „Sei Lob und Ehr dem höchsten Gut“, for the second theme is the chorale „‘Mir nach’, spricht Christus, unser Held“. Bach does not have the organ processing of these Lutheran hymns which would allow for a comparative analysis and more informed conclusions concerning the artistic and spiritual content of the Fugue F-dur. Bach himself has never spoken on the subject. As a literary source determining the content of the Fugue are considered the fragments from the Gospel according of Mark and Revelation of St. John the Theologian. The analysis presented by the author can help musicians-performers students in higher educational institutions when analyze the creative heritage of the composer and comprehend the hidden artistic content of his works selected to be inclusion in their repertoire.
