Finds of the 13th—14th Centuries Coins on the Caravan Routes of Saraijuq

Our research focused on two main goals. The first goal was to present the finds of Golden Horde coins from four sites for scientific discussion. These sites were situated along medieval trade routes that passed through Saraijuq: the Taskeshu caravanserai, the Sagiz settlement, the Ushkan settlement, and the Ashchysai archaeological site. The second goal was to describe the evolution of the chronological composition of these coin finds, despite their statistical limitations (less than 25 specimens). In total, we presented sixty-two coins for analysis: 15 from Taskeshu; 8 from Sagiz; 23 from Ushkan; and 16 from Ashchysai. Our findings confirmed that all the coins are Jochid, primarily consisting of small copper coins minted in the 14th century. We compared the chronological composition of numismatic finds from each settlement with similar data from Saraijuq and the capital city, Sarai. Our analysis revealed that a comparative review of the chronological composition of these numismatic collections can yield important and valuable insights. It is essential to correlate this data with the results of studies on the dynamics of coin circulation in larger commercial centers. We emphasize that the results of this study should be considered preliminary.
