We report the structural and physical properties of Ta1- x Cr x Te2 single crystals. The x = 0 compound crystallizes in a monoclinic structure and undergoes a structural transition around T S ∼ 180 K, which can be suppressed by Cr doping. With increasing x , the structure evolves from monoclinic to a trigonal structure, while the slope of the temperature-dependent resistivity changes sign above x ∼ 0.15 arising from Cr-doping induced disorder and a glassy state is observed for high x samples. These results demonstrate not only the Cr-doping effects but also provide fundamental insights into the complex lattice-spin-electron coupled phenomena in Ta1-xCrxTe2.
