The paper features intermediate results of a ethnoarchaeological study conducted in the territory of Almaty region in 2024. In particular, the study objects were the sites of traditional Kazakh wintering (kystau), migration system, archaeological, funerary monuments and other aspects of life of the local population of Zhetysu. As a result, a number of details and materials relating to this period, as well as to earlier historical periods, were collected. In the field season of 2024, the ethnoarchaeological group identified 2 historical and cultural heritage sites in the territory of Almaty region. One of them is a previously unknown Karasaz settlement. The second site is a multi-layer Tanbalytas-Burlyshoky complex, covering the period from the Bronze Age to the 19th century. The authors conclude that their further study is required.
