The article discusses newly discovered archaeological sites in Abai region, identified during an ethno-archaeological expedition. For the first time, information is introduced into scholarly circulation concerning the presumed location of the Aigyz Tower. This forgotten monument had until now remained outside the focus of researchers. The earliest reference to the Aigyz monument dates back to the 18th century, in the notes of Captain Andreev. A.Kh. Margulan also briefly mentioned the monuments of Aigyz and Aybas in his studies. As a result of the expeditionary research, questions regarding the construction features of the Aigyz Tower and its chronology, in comparison with other similar stone structures of the region, were examined. Taking into account that the names of some stone monuments in the region are closely linked with the heroes of the epic Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu, the assumption is put forward that they were erected in the medieval or possibly even earlier period. The article identifies the sacred space of the Kozy Korpesh–Bayan Sulu monument and provides a comprehensive analysis of the place-names and rivers associated with it, as well as of the Aigyz and Aybas monuments and others. In addition, it discusses the influence of the architecture of the Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu monument on Kazakh cemeteries in this region, as well as the unique architectural features of burial structures in different areas.
