The West Kazakhstan region is the key region of the Republic of Kazakhstan; its strategic development is based on agriculture. Cattle farming is a prioritized field of agricultural production of the region. Aiming at development of distant pasture-based cattle farming, sufficient attention is paid to creation of conditions for efficient use of pasture possibilities. Non-uniform distribution of open water sources, low outputs and high mineralization of underground sources are the limiting factors of development of cattle farming in Kazakhstan. In order to develop substantiated solutions to optimum conditions of water supply to pastures, it is required to study the current state of the water supply sources. On the basis of monitoring of underground water sources in dry steppe, semidesert and desert zones of the region, their quantitative and qualitative indices are analyzed.
