Drilled wells within the X structure have revealed suprasalt deposits from the Quaternary period to the Kungurian stage of the Lower Permian. Tectonically, the field is located in the southeastern part of the Caspian Basin. According to tectonic zoning, the subsalt deposits of the X structure are confined to the Guriyev uplift of the Biikzhal uplift zone, which complicates the southeastern part of the Caspian Basin. The oil-bearing potential of the X field was confirmed in 1979 by well G-2, where testing of Lower Cretaceous deposits on the Western uplift of the structure yielded an oil inflow. The productivity of Middle Jurassic deposits was identified in 2006 on both the Western and Eastern uplifts. In 2007, well R-3 confirmed the productivity of Lower Cretaceous deposits (K1a) on the Eastern uplift.
