FEATURES OF GEODYNAMIC EVOLUTION OF THE NORTH-EASTERN PART OF THE ZHEZKAZGAN DEPRESSION

Purpose. Study of the deep structure of the part of the Sarysu-Teniz segment of the Devonian volcanic-plutonic belt and the northeastern part of the Zhezkazgan Basin, as well as, in particular, the tectonic structure of the Zhezkazgan-Terekty thrust based on new seismic survey data, in order to correct geological maps, study the deep structure of the area, and justify geological exploration work for the search of solid minerals associated with deep-lying structures. Methodology. The study involved deep seismic surveys using the general depth point method, interpretation of seismic profiles, and analysis of lithological-paleogeographical maps. Findings. Interpretation of the deep seismic data obtained in the northeastern part of the Zhezkazgan Basin in 2020‒2022, in the area where it connects with the structures of the Sarysu-Teniz uplift, significantly revised the understanding of the structure of the Zhezkazgan-Terekty thrust. The interpretation results showed that the seismic method enhances the accuracy of interpreting the geological structure of the region. Under favorable conditions, this can be an additional source of information for further integration of geophysical methods in the processing and interpretation of materials, geological reconstructions, and prospecting evaluations of areas, as well as for the interpretation of volcanic-sedimentary complexes, the study of the structure of the basement, and fault-block tectonics. Originality. The results of the presented studies significantly change the understanding of the geological and tectonic structure of the region, particularly the Zhezkazgan-Terekty thrust, and its direction of dip. Practical value. The distribution of mineral deposits has been predicted based on the influence of new data regarding the position of the regional fault, as well as the geodynamic concept of the region.
