Phonemes in a language do not exist in isolation, but are always used in conjunction with other phonemes. Depending on various phonetic conditions, phonemes change in quality, forming a regular series of variants. As a result, a sound system characteristic of each language is formed. Phonemes differ from each other not only in acoustic-articulatory characteristics, but also in the ability to distinguish morphemes and words. In the vocal chain, significant units undergo various modifications, forming allophones of phonemes. The main reasons for the emergence of allophones are phonetic reasons: the types of syllables, the nature and place of stress, the interaction of phonemes in the vocal chain, the beginning and end of words. Each language has its own patterns of phoneme variation. The phonetic nuances of a phoneme are obligatory for all speakers of a given language because they are caused by phonetic processes and sound alternations of a given language. A phoneme can correspond to several different realizations, each corresponding to a specific position. Thus, phonemes, being components of the phonetic system in coherent speech, undergo various modifications. Specific sounds in the speech stream are material symbols of phonemes. In spoken discourse, the phonetic units of words and phrases are modified by appearing in their allophones. Using experimental research methods, phonetic-phonological processes are described. The work reveals the variability of phoneme changes, the articulatory weakening of certain phonemes and their qualitative and quantitative modifications.
