Coordination polymers have emerged as versatile materials for water remediation owing to their structural tunability and rich coordination environments. Building on these advantages, this work reports the synthesis of a Nd-formate coordination polymer (Nd-formate CP) synthesized via in situ ligand generation, wherein dimethylformamide undergoes partial hydrolysis under solvothermal conditions to produce formate ligands that coordinate with Nd3+ centers. The structural, morphological, and chemical characteristics of the synthesized Nd-formate CP were systematically characterized, confirming the development of a crystalline coordination framework with distinct metal-ligand interactions and structural stability. The as-synthesized Nd–formate CP was evaluated for its effectiveness in the adsorptive removal of organic dyes from aqueous solutions. Under acidic to nearly neutral pH conditions, adsorption tests showed remarkable removal efficiency (>95–96%) toward Congo Red (CR) and Trypan Blue (TB). Kinetic analysis revealed a strong correlation with the pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.998), indicating that a predominantly chemically driven adsorption process plays a dominant role in the adsorption. Langmuir isotherm fitting confirmed high-capacity monolayer adsorption behaviour. Carbonate species considerably decreased absorption because of competitive complexation with Nd3+ sites, but salt tolerance studies showed no influence from NaCl, NaNO3, and Na2SO4. The practical applicability was further demonstrated using a continuous-flow setup, confirming its effective dye removal under dynamic operating conditions. Overall, the findings indicate that Nd-formate CP is a cost-effective, stable, and highly efficient adsorbent suitable for industrial dye remediation.
