Extracting the solidified core melt from the damaged reactors by drilling or cutting requires knowledge of both the microstructure and its mechanical properties. In this work, samples of the melt were obtained from an ampoule irradiation device (AID) test section designed to study the properties of forming alloys of materials in the reactor core. Destructive studies were conducted, whereby the visual information was obtained about the internal state of the AID test section structural elements after an in-pile test at the IGR reactor. The phase elemental analysis was carried out, the microstructure was studied, and the microhardness of the samples surface was determined.
