The study focuses on the burial of a man and an associated assemblage of artefacts discovered in the dunes at the Early Iron Age settlement of Semiyarka 2 (Eastern Kazakhstan). Based on data obtained during fieldwork, laboratory processing, conservation, and scientific analyses (including X-ray fluorescence spectrometry of non-ferrous metal objects and paleoanthropological determinations), and relying on the comparative-typological method, it was possible to identify analogies among Kimak, Srostki culture, and Kyrgyz sites in the Irtysh region and the Altai. The artefact assemblage found with the burial dates to the flourishing period of the Kimak Khaganate-the second half of the 9thto the first half of the 10thcentury AD. The results of XRF analysis of some belt and bridle fittings from Semiyarka 2 revealed chemical characteristics that distinguish these items from Srostki materials. Other artefacts, however, demonstrate similarities in alloy recipes and technological features with belt and bridle ornaments from burials on the Ob Plateau. As a result, the Early Medieval assemblage from the Semiyarka 2 settlement may be interpreted as the burial of a Kimak warrior dating to the second half of the 9thto the first half of the 10thcentury AD.
