Russian and English phraseological units (PhU) characterizing a happy person are used to examine the ethnic specifics of English and Russian linguistic cultures, and to explore similarities and differences in the system of images embedded in the Ph U. The results of the study revealed the values of a happy person in both cultures: love for God and man, knowledge passed down from generation to generation, a healthy psycho-physiological and emotional background. The specificity of the PhU of the English language characterizes a happy Englishman as a person sensitive to changes in the surrounding nature, recognizing the power and strength of his country, possessing a bright national character, honoring history, appreciating prosperity, love, mutual understanding and safety. The specificity of the PhU of the Russian language characterizes a happy Russian as a person who is successful in business, loves to relax, superstitious, physically free, financially secure.
