The research is aimed at the use of permanent magnets for treatment of process water at heat and power plants in order to prevent scale formation. The scale problem is relevant for systems where hard water circulates, as the deposition of calcium and magnesium salts reduces the efficiency of heat exchange and increases equipment maintenance costs. As part of the experiments, a laboratory setup with electromagnets installed on the pipelines has been developed and tests have been carried out to measure the effect of magnetic and electromagnetic fields on the structure of calcium carbonate deposits. The results have showed that under the influence of the magnetic field, calcium deposits change their crystalline structure, which reduces their tendency to precipitate on heating surfaces. These results confirm the possibility of using magnetic and electromagnetic methods in order to reduce scale formation, which can increase the service life of heat exchange equipment and reduce operating costs.
