Modern thermal protection systems for solid rocket motors: A comparative review of composite manufacturing technologies

This article presents a review of modern methods for producing high-temperature thermal insulation materials for solid rocket motor combustion chambers. The study examines the most effective material manufacturing technologies for thermal protection systems, including sintering, infiltration, polymer forming, and additive manufacturing. These methods enable the creation of composite systems with optimal thermochemical properties. Special attention is given to a comparative analysis of the technological features of the reviewed methods, the applicability of the resulting materials under extreme thermal and mechanical loads, and the prospects for integrating various approaches to develop reliable thermal protection systems. The review covers key research and technologies related to high-temperature material production. The paper begins with an analysis of the relevance of this review and the current state of high-temperature materials. It then explores and compares different manufacturing methods, emphasizing their advantages and disadvantages, with a particular focus on the application of specific technological solutions. The conclusion justifies the need for further development of manufacturing methods and summarizes the main findings of the study.
