The Impact of Psychosocial Factors in the Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma Progression

Purpose. To assess the impact of psychosocial factors on the progression of primary open-angle glaucoma. Materials and methods. Analysis of past medical history of patients, psychodiagnostics test and statistical analysis. The parameters of situational and personal anxiety, family tension and depressive symptoms in patients with a stabilized and unsterilized course of primary open-angle glaucoma were studied. Results and conclusions. The results of the work showed that in terms of progressive course of disease an increased level of general family anxiety, a higher level of personal and situational anxiety in comparison with patients with a stabilized course of the glaucomatous process are presented. The level of depressive symptoms in patients with an unsterilized course of glaucoma significantly exceeds the level of depressive symptoms in patients with a stabilized course of the disease.
