Over the years of independence, more than 1 million compatriots (kandasy) have migrated to Kazakhstan from different world countries. This study, which focuses on the processes of integration of the kandasy in their historical homeland, is of significant importance. The aim is to identify the causes of difficulties with adapting repatriates. In addition to classical theories of the study of social phenomena, the authors relied on the theory of social migration networks. Statistical information analysis, focus groups, interviews, and questionnaires were used to collect primary social information. The measures taken by the Government of the Republic and local authorities play a crucial role in successfully adapting repatriates. However, as the results of the study showed, the integration of kandasy into the host community is complicated for subjective and objective reasons. There is a misunderstanding with the governing bodies; there are quarrels with the local population — both Kazakhs and other ethnic groups. The repatriates do not have objective information about socio-economic and cultural life, about the linguistic situation in modern Kazakhstan. Russian-Kazakh bilingualism, which exists de facto in some regions of the country, turns out to be unexpected for repatriates, causing outrage among those Kazakhs who do not speak Russian. For the successful integration of repatriates, the coordinated work of state bodies and extensive information and explanatory work are necessary.
