Kazakh folk dances are unique and distinctive thus it has not been adopted by professional artists as quickly as oral traditional Kazakh folklore. Authors of this article believe that folk dance can be characterised as rhythmic memory of body movements or live element of nomad culture, which describes mindset and perspective of Kazakh people about world around them (cosmos, earth, heaven and its dwellers). The main purpose of this article is to unravel fundamental layers of dance folklore of nomadic Kazakhs in animalistic contents by researching preserved written sources and artistic artifacts (rock paintings, records of travellers and artists) as well as materials of etno-choreography of Turkic people.
