Diffusion and convective mixing of components in three-and four-component gas mixtures containing helium, nitrogen, argon, and carbon dioxide at different pressures was experimentally studied. Pressure regions where the diffusion–concentration gravitational convection transition is recorded were determined empirically, and priority transfer of the component with the highest molecular weight was registered. Comparison showed that in the mode of instability of the mechanical equilibrium of the system at the same pressures, the intensity of CO2 transfer in a three-component mixture is higher than that in a four-component mixture. For theoretical analysis, a calculation model was used to determine the boundary of the change in the diffusion–convection modes in a flat vertical channel with mass-impermeable walls. Stability maps were obtained, the analysis of which showed satisfactory agreement in pressure regions where the diffusion–concentration gravitational convection transition is recorded.
