Ovarian teratomas represent 15–20% of all ovarian tumors. Struma ovarii in most cases (up to 50%) refers to a monodermal variant of mature ovarian teratoma and is a rather rare tumor consisting of thyroid tissue. This type of neoplasm accounts for 1% of all ovarian tumors and 2.7% of all dermoid tumors. The diagnosis of struma ovarii is made when the thyroid tissue makes up more than 50% of the tumor tissue. This article describes a personal experience of managing a patient diagnosed with malignant struma ovarii. Data on clinical and morphological features of the disease are presented.
