The paper analyzes information about the period of the second half of the 19th — the first half of the 20th centuries in the history of the study of stone statues of Saryarka, when the collection of information about these monuments was carried out episodically and not methodically. Nonspecific character of studying is due to the fact that this period coincided with the formation of archeology as a science.
