The article presents the results of studies to determine the gas content in the d6 coal seam with respect to the sulfur-containing gases, to identify the specific features of these gases emission from the coal seam and to develop efficient ways of controlling hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. Technologies of suppressing sulfur-containing gases with application of gas-absorbing glycerine, gas-absorbing and neutralizing hydroxide-glycerine; spent-soap lyes; powdered shell-calcined soda compositions are proved and justified by industrial tests and their implementation in mine conditions. The efficiency of the active physical and physiochemical methods to treat the coal mass is based on the intensive absorption and neutralization of the sulfur-containing gases by the solutions during the coal seams mining. Parameters of the developed technologies and the areas of their application are identified. The developed environmentally friendly technologies to control the sulfur-containing gases during underground mining operations are simple enough, convenient for practical application, cost-effective, and ensure clean mine air and environment. The results obtained will be of interest to specialists carrying out research in the fields of physical and chemical geotechnology, chemistry and ecology.
