The Caspian Sea, as one of the largest inland water body attracts special attention of scientists and specialists. Monitoring of the water and soil quality in the coastal zone for environmental protection is of particular relevance, especially in areas where rapid changes are taking place, such as the coasts of Kazakhstan in the Middle Caspian Sea. The study aims to identify the level of heavy metals and metalloids pollution of water and soil in the coastal zone near Aktau (Kazakhstan) and to assess their impact on the ecological state of the region. The analysis of soil and water samples collected in 2023 in the coastal zone near Aktau revealed elevated concentrations of copper at multiple observation points. Out of 12 soil sampling locations, copper levels exceeded Maximum Permissible Concentrations (MPC) in 8 points, indicating localized pollution. Comparison with data obtained in 2019 shows a slight decrease in the number of polluted sites, suggesting partial improvement in environmental conditions. The observed downward trend in copper pollution suggests the possible effectiveness of environmental protection measures, but a permanent monitoring is required to ensure the sustainability of these improvements.
